DESERT HINTS AND MOTTOS
DESERT HINTS were originally posted on the Weigh Down Workshop Encouragement Board by Gerry in MD. We will continue to add desert hints, mottos, sayings or memory helpers to this list as we receive submissions.
- Work on your rewards list when you think you are hungry but your stomach doesn't say you are.
- Cut your food in half. (One lady refused to cut her footlong hotdog in half!)
- Try "walking" through the desert on your knees.
- Eat your food in a circle, tasting everything (even the dessert!).
- Rate your food. Eat the best first.
- Refuse to eat when it is hectic or when it will be hard to determine when you are satisfied.
- When you want to bite your nails, chew candy or put food or cigarettes in your mouth, pray or open up the Bible and read. You are just in need of God.
- Aren't you glad to know that these urges are simply a craving for God?"
- Try eating your meals on a salad plate. Include your family in this experiment and observe their comments!
- If you don't know what you want to eat, you are not really hungry! Wait!
- Try eating real butter and real cheese and real sour cream! The taste is worth the smaller amount!
- Sip your drink between bites.
- Make it your goal to be obedient with each bite at every meal!
- Don't stuff yourself when dining out - you can "half" it later in a carry out!
- Savor every bite, eating slowly enough to be "full" and "satisfied" at the same time.
- Let God be the judge and not the scale; He's the one that says "pass or fail"!
- Obedience is: doing what I'm told to do, when I'm told to do it, with a right attitude!
- Drink non-caloric drinks between meals.
- Some eat at morning, some at night; either one is quite all right!
- Your goal should not be smaller plates, slower eating, or smaller bites. These suggestions are merely offered to help you reach your goal of not overindulging yourself.
- When you are "thirsty" in the desert, remember: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." ~Matthew 5:6
- Try sipping 1-2 oz. of juice before a meal to "settle you down."
- Ask the Lord to "break" you, for a "broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." ~Psalm 51:17b
- You have only one job description - obedience to God.
- When eating your food, don't make haste; it's not the stomach but the mouth that tastes!
- It is better to let food go to waste then to let it go to waist.
- The definition of success is replacing the passion for food with a passion for God.

- It's hard to hear a "still, small voice" with the TV going, the radio , and the phone ringing! Try the "off" button and enjoy your "quiet" time!
- Head hunger is just your own will. Are you passing these tests and temptations? We know you can do it.
- When you eat past full, refuse to loosen your clothes.

- Practice saying, "I'll have a half piece, please."
- Be happy eating smaller amounts.

- Next time you're tempted to get a midnight snack, try Psalm 119:62 !
