The Lay of the Land

And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain: And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many; And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds; And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land.
When the world fights a battle, they take the lay of the land very seriously. Terrain, transportation routes, demographics, weather and such all play a role in their strategy. These aspects of the battlefield are not good or bad in themselfs. These things are drawn into the battle by how they are used.

A river may have flowed on the same path for thousands of years and could not care less who is fighting around it. But for those engaged in the battle, its course can make all the difference. Many times the same feature can help or hurt an army depending on how they use it.

As an example; Recently there has been a large immigration of non-Christians to the U.S.A. Some people feel this is going to erode America's Christian base, calling it the "Pagan Invasion". Others see it as a great opportunity to evangelize people from "closed" contries were missonaries are not allowed. Both aspects of immigration are true. The flow of non-Christians in not good or evil in itsef. How we adress them is very important to how the spiritual battle in our nation as well as the world will go.

Some of the features of the spiritual battlefield:

Demographics
Demographics is basic information about a community. Race, ethnic origin, size and make up of families, and do people own or rent thier homes are examples of this kind of information. Census reports are good for providing demographics.
History
The memories of a people live on long after the original participants have passed away. Blessings and curses hold on through generations. This is sometimes called the "collective consciousness" of the people and examples of it are found throughout the Bible
Economy
The management of resorces and wealth varies from one group to the other. The world shows that principles suchas honesty and justice are independent of the economic system. There is no Biblical preference for one system over another.
Culture
Additutes and manerisms-----vary with different peoples.
Government
