Reference: 1. "Family Inquiry Sheet" sent from Leslie Marble Lowery, Sr., dated March 30, 1973, to Nancy Marble who sent me a photocopy of it. The "Inquiry" listed three generations of Mr. Lowery's family, starting with himself and working backward through the generations of his ancestors. His mother was Myrtie Henrietta Marble, hence the request to Nancy for information she might have on his family line. He listed his ancestry through the Marble family line as follows:spouse: >Martinez, Mary Abigail (1922 - >1973)Leslie Marble Lowery, Sr. (himself) Myrtie Henrietta Marble (mother) Archibald Leslie Marble (grandfather) Freeman Malachi Marble + Mary Eliza Kimball (great- grandparents) Ezra Marble + Abigail Leland (great-great-grandparents) Malachi Marble + Mary Hayden, Sutton, Mass. (great-great- great-grandparents) Freegrace Marble + Mary Sibley, Andover/Salem (4th great-grandparents) Samuel Marble, Immigrant to Mass. Fr England circa prior to 1660, Bro of John + Wm. was not Leslie's ancestor, but Samuel (2) a son of John (1). John (1) came from England with his brothers.
Mr. Lowery erred, however, in stating that Freegrace's father, Samuel, was his immigrant ancestor and brother to John and William. The Samuel he is referring to is Samuel (2) Marble, not Samuel (1) Marble. Samuel (2) Marble is the son of John (1) Marble who is the immigrant ancestor. Samuel (2) Marble did have a brother named John (John (2) Marble) and this is perhaps what threw Mr. Lowery off the trail. He did not, as far as I can determine, have a brother named William. The immigrant ancestor William was this Samuel's uncle. Mr. Lowery just did not go back far enough. Samuel (2) was born in 1648, "according to his own testimony" (Essex County Court Records, Vol. 4, page 422) during a court case in Essex County. He was probably born in Charlestown, Mass. and was definitely born to John (1) Marble who, except for an extended visit to his sons (of which Samuel was one) in Andover, Mass. lived his entire life in Charlestown, Mass. and died there in 1695, so Samuel was probably born there although we do not have documentation of it. We do have documentation, however, of his older brother, John, being born in Charlestown and of his younger brother, Joseph, being born in Charlestown, so it's a pretty sure thing that Samuel was also born there.
