FOR ALL THE MEMORIES
For all the memories of times we shared……of quiet walks….of angry talks;
For all those times I was too busy to pat, or hug or kiss…..and stuff like that;
For all the tears I found I shed, upon realizing you were dead….never to come when again I called, never again to chase the ball, run down the hall, or jump up and give me one more kiss.
For if I had the chance to be….back from the start with you and me..
If I could live it all again…….I'd pray to God there was no end.
Because it seems everyone has a memorial page for their dogs that have departed, I chose to put this one on my website. I hope you will pardon me if I do not list the names of those who have gone.…….because it is a private loss and one I am not comfortable sharing with those who may visit here.
But I would like to take this moment to pray for those I have loved and lost.
Many years ago, when I had to send my first Champion Bitch to the bridge, I wrote her this poem. I would like to share it with you now.
I gave my dog to God today
I wanted her to stay,
But those eyes told me that it was time
And I didn't have the heart;
To tell my dog I would not help her go
Up to the bridge,
That I couldn't live without her….
That she simply had to stay.
She looked at me with saddened eyes
That said she had lost the fight….
That the pain that she endured would give to her an endless night.
As I gazed into those saddened eyes
I knew she felt it too…
As though my dog was saying
I don't want to leave you too!
There'll never be a day I live
Without the memory of….
My dear friend that I buried
Because I gave her more than I could spare
Because I gave her my love, my heart, my name.
In loving memory of
