Medical Students as Health and Environmental Promoters

Topics of health & environment education sessions

Not all students started with the same sequence of topics. Often they chose according to the situation found. Some topics had to be repeated several times if it was felt necessary. The topics for health education were the following:

• basics of personal hygiene
• dental hygiene
• school hygiene
• environmental sanitation
• water management
• control of flies
• nutrition and its effect on human being
• food sanitation
• prevention of helmintic diseases
• bilharzia prevention
• prevention of eye infections
• unsound health habits
• transmission of zoonotic diseases
• healthy life style (TV watching, sleeping, etc.)
• first aid

Other topics of interest for pupils were contact infections, AIDs, school achievements, problems with parents among others.
