VOLUNTEER TO HELP

Halfway House

The mission houses nine men who are unable to work due to physical or mental difficulties.  They can be helped by supplying the following items:

A new home - the mission is currently is horrific physical condition.  The county and city have combined to afford the mission a new building at its current location; however, Mrs. Seymore needs a place to house her men and feed her families while they rebuild.  She would prefer to stay in the same are - Houston's Fifth Ward - 610 & Jensen Drive on the city's northwest side.                                
Toiletries - toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brushes, hair brushes, combs, cotton balls, cotton swabs, tissues.                
Bedding - blankets, sheets, pillow cases, pillows, mattresses                                
Clothing - men's shoes, suits, shirts, coats, pants, shorts.                                        
Medicines - aspirin, allergy medicines, antiseptic creams.                                          
Food - canned goods, fresh fruits, meats, vegetables, dry goods, etc.

Lunch Line

The food kitchen feeds hot meals every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to more than 300 people.  Specific needs are:

Food - hundreds of pounds of food are cooked every week.  The mission is in constant need of any fresh, canned and dry foods. Meats, vegetables, fruits, breads, dairy products, spices, oil.
Kitchen supplies - the mission desperately needs a new commercial freezer - two door or three.  Stainless pots and pans, utensils.
Styrofoam containers - three part with covers are always in short-supply. 
Clothing - frequently people in the food line need clothes:  adults and children's.       
Furniture - people at the mission can always find a suitable home for furniture you no longer want.                                          
Bedding - blankets, blankets, blankets - also sheets, pillows, bedspreads.                
Toiletries - toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brushes, hair brushes, combs, cotton balls, cotton swabs, tissues.

Individual Families

In addition to the halfway house and hot meals, Mrs. Seymore provides over 20 families with weekly supplies.  Her families are always in need of:

Food - dry and canned goods, mainly. 
Clothing - adults and children's:  coats, shoes, pants, shorts, shirts, dresses, suits, hosiery. 
Furniture - beds, couches, end tables, kitchen tables, desks, televisions, kitchen supplies and appliances, washing machines, dryers. 
Bedding - blankets, sheets, pillows, bedspreads.     
Toiletries - toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brushes, hair brushes, combs, cotton balls, cotton swabs, tissues.

Giving Ideas

Clean out your closets - give your old clothes, shoes, furniture, etc. to the mission and take a tax deduction 
Gift Baskets - put together toiletry bags for the men, food baskets for the families, or cater lunch for a day. 
Go Shopping - buy in bulk at a big sale on blankets, canned or dry goods, toiletries, Styrofoam containers, etc.                              
Volunteer - help cook and/or serve lunch.  Help clean the mission.   Plant a garden or some flowers to spruce up the place - pull weeds, or pick-up trash on the grounds. 
Cash - always welcomed and guaranteed to be put to good use.  Mrs. Seymore takes no salary - there are no salaried employees - only volunteers.  There's no fancy office.
