The Child Abuse Man is planning a trip to Pennsylvania in August.
Paula is looking forward to her brother's visit. (older sister)
has made plans to come home from Goose Creek, S.C., at the same
time. With (older brother) already in Donora, the four will be together
for a rare reunion.
Paula thinks the four of them should sit for a portrait.
Will their mother be invited?
"No," Paula says.
"When he does come home we will patch things up," (mother) says.
"I'm pretty sure he will accept me as I will accept him. My arms
and heart will be right with him. I have pictures of him. I often
look at them and I tell him, Paul, I love you.'
I want to tell you a little poem I made up while I was walking
along." (mother) says. "May the Lord watch over you, a star to shine
upon you, a light to guide your way, my love and prayers will always
be with you.
"I had a dream, there was a big building and it had big pillars,"
(mother) says. "There was somebody on my right and somebody on my
left. People were fighting in the street, and there was a hearse
there. In the building, children were crying.
"I went out in the middle of the street and the fighting stopped.
The hearse came back, and it was empty. I was lifted so I could
talk to the children. I said, Children, don't cry anymore. Everything's
going to be wonderful.'
"I can't wait until Paul comes home."
The cars hiss by on Seventh Avenue, headed east. The Child Abuse
Man, standing on the sidewalk and rocking back and forth with his
cardboard sign, is begging for help.
PLEASE HEAR MY CRY FOR
