last words about the FUMP2
a standalone MP3-CD-Player based on VLSI's VS1001

this page will not be translated to german, since it might be interesting for non-german speakers as well
The FUMP2 is a stand-alone MP3-CD-Player using an ordinary IDE CD-Rom drive. It is based on the HMpeg (www.h-mpeg.de)
but using the new VS1001 decoding chip by VLSI (www.vlsi.fi).
The software for this player is mainly HMpeg's, but the VS1001 routines are from Jesper Hansen's yampp-3 (www.yampp.com),
adapted by me.
"Beta" schematic available for download(125k PNG), but absolutely no warranty!!! There might be a whole lot of little bugs inside. So better check it against
VLSI's reference documents
for further information on the player consider visiting www.h-mpeg.de, especially for information on programming the GAL,
choice of logic family (HC vs. HCT vs. AC(T)), problems with the LCD, remote control, car extension, AVR programming tools, since my FUMP2 is merely a
quick'n'dirty hack of the H-Mpeg for the VS1001 (whose availability and public acceptance, admittedly, isn't that good... But I think the guys at VLSI will fix the bugs and produce a *cheap* series version)
last remarks concerning the FUMP2, November 17th, 2003
The VS1001 is in full production, Segor, Berlin and Jesper Hansen sell it. It now also is bug free and has several new features, too.
The FUMP2 hasn't been any further developed for about two and a half years by now, and this page is merely a service for strangers, finding this page via search engines.
The H-Mpeg homepage mentioned above has been down for quite a long time by now, or at least, there aren't any new things since summer 2001...
Sadly, you don't need to build an MP3 player on your own by now, since there are a lot of affordable MP3 players on the market. And even the MAS3507, first-hour decoder chip is available for about 10EUR by now. I bought one for 2EUR at the local Conrad, anyway. Maybe someday, it might be of any use. :-)
The software works quite perfectly, so it is available for download here:
CD Version June 07 '01
HD Version June 07 '01
New:improved CD Version July 09 '01
all zips in German only, so far. Sorry!
The FUMP 1...
isn't being developed any further, since it works just perfectly.
