The Granberg Garden of Goodies

My Norwegian Heritage

My Scandinavian roots intrigue me being only a second generation American on my father's side. With a little luck with internet searches and some help from several cousins, we have now gone back to my great-great-great-grandfather Olof Granberg who was born between 1766-1769 in or near Soderhamn, Gavleborg, Sweden. My branch of the family lost touch with our cousins to in the Eastern U.S. and Norway a number of years ago. I am sure there are still distant relatives living in Norway and Sweden, as well as across the U.S. Please, if you see someone in your family listed here, please write at hetabazil@yahoo.com.

Olof Granberg Descendency Chart [updated 18 January 2003]

My father's maternal grandparents, Harald Fritof STIANSEN [Stenson in US] and Gunnild Olsdatter SALVESON [?], along with their two children, emigrated from Norway to the US in 1883. At some time between 1883 and 1891, the family returned to Norway, with or without Gunnild who left her husband and children. In 1891, Harald and the children, then 11 and 10, returned from Norway to settle in Illinois where they remained on a farm near Crystal Lake. Harald remarried several years later about the time Inga left home at 17. The family as we know it is as follows:

Harald Fritof STIANSEN [name changed to Stenson in the U.S.]
  b. 26 March 1854, Kristiansand, Vest Agder, Norway
  d. October 1948, Oakland, California
  & Gunnild Olsdatter SALVESON
  b. est. 1859

  • Fritjof [Frederick] STIANSEN
      b. 1878-1880, Kristiansand, Vest Agder, Norway
      d. 5 October 1948, Oakland, California
      m. Clara
    • Erlene, married Henry [Rutkowski] Rutley
    • Woodrow Wilson Stenson, died at 8-10 years
    • Grover Cleveland Stenson, died as a teenager
  • Ingaborg Otelia STIANSEN
      b. January 31, 1881 in Christiansand, Norway   d. June 15, 1955 in Pittsburg, California
      m. 10 January 1903 [see Lars Gustav GRANBERG for details]

Again, if you recognize any of these names, are related to them, or know of other people who are, please write to me at hetabazil@yahoo.com. Great progress has been made; however this is still a slow and tedious process and any connections are welcomed.
