General Fund

Donations to the general fund support the foundation's underwriting of Mini Grant programs and Star Grant programs

The Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education has created three Endowment Funds: the Greenkill Fund, the Field trip Fund and recently - the Millennium Fund.

Auction Donation

Donations to our auction help us raise money to put into our general fund or into a specific fund, use our auction donation form. Applications are due by April 1, 2002.

Millennium Fund

Underwritten by an $10,000 anonymous donation, the Millennium Fund is intended to provide HFEE with "an on-going source of funding for its work of enhancing the educational experience for district children." The donor has instructed HFEE to invest the money so that the Millennium Endowment Fund can grow over time and contribute a significant amount of support to HFEE activities. According to the plan, 50% of the annual profit of the fund will be used to sponsor Foundation programs and 50% will be reinvested.

An additional challenge grant of $5,000 was also granted, provided HFEE matches that sum during the year 2000 through other donations - "not funds raised through the auction." The donor's goal is to build the endowment fund to $1 million. More details about meeting that challenge will be forthcoming. Contributions to the endowment fund should be sent directly to HFEE.

Greenkill Fund

The Greenkill Fund was established in 1996 to provide scholarships for students who cannot afford the full cost of participating in this trip which is offered as a culminating activity to the sixth grade science curriculum.

The three-day program, presented at the Greenkill YMCA Camp, in Huguenot, N. Y., provides environmental workshops and activities that give students hands-on knowledge of the natural environment. 

Field Trip Fund

The Field Trip Fund, established in 1999, is designed to assure that no student misses an educationally-enriching field trip due to financial need. Under the program, each building principal is provided an annual budget to assist students, as needed. Each school principal disburses the funds on a confidential basis.

Contributions to both the Greenkill and Field Trip funds can be made to HFEE directly or through the United Way. United Way donations coded #026811 come to HFEE for these funds.

United Way

Help a Student Attend Greenkill with United Way Contribution

Individuals who give to the United Way Campaign through payroll deductions can now direct a portion of their gift to HFEE's Greenkill endowment fund.

The Greenkill outdoor education experience is presented at the Greenkill YMCA Camp, in Huguenot, N. Y., as a culminating activity to the district's sixth grade science %curriculum each year.

MATCHING FUNDS

"Becoming a United Way agency will be extremely beneficial to HFEE's Greenkill fund because many corporations match employee contributions to the United Way agencies their employees designate. This greatly increases the impact of individual donations," said HFEE Vice President Brian Whitehead, who took the steps needed to arrange this method of support.

Over the past two years about 24 students who would otherwise have been unable to afford the cost of participating in this three-day environmental program did so thanks to scholarships from HFEE's Greenkill Fund.

The cost of about $150 per student includes bus transportation, meals, lodging, and speakers and guides as well as chaperones.

People wishing to participate can direct their contribution on the United Way donor card to Agency Code 026811 -- the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education -Greenkill.

To contribute directly, simply send a check, payable to HFEE, and marked Greenkill Fund, to P0 Box 552, Huntington, N.Y. 11743.
