The first Habitat House in Dickinson is located at 338 1st Avenue West. Habitat for Humanity of Southwestern North Dakota has volunteers willing to speak to organizations and businesses to provide housing information. Construction on the 2nd Habitat House is slated to begin early this summer. The house will be located in the 500 block of 2nd Ave S.E. in Dickinson. About Us
In March of 2000, a small group of individuals from the Dickinson area met to discuss
the possibility of forming a Habitat for Humanity Affiliate in our community. Why?
Approximately 3,166 people in Stark County live below the poverty level and over
200 people are awaiting subsidized housing. These figures prove that there is a need
for alternatives and a cooperative effort between persons who dream of owning their
own home and those that can help make that dream come true.Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers provide most of
the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build
Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor -
"sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage
payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
