Prices: A dish with one LNB for Astra is around 450 kr (60 Euro); a dish with two LNBs and a switch (or with a monoblock) for both Astra and Hotbird is around 600 kr (80 Euro).
FAQ Q: Why are the prices mentioned here much lower than what I see in the shops? A: Prices for these things vary enormously in Denmark. Shop around and look at prices in different stores. You should not need to pay much more than what is shown here. Q: I would like to have a dish with two heads (LNBs). Is it important whether I select a dish with two separate LNBs and a switch or a dish with a monoblock? A: Both implementations are equally good. Select what you can get for the best price. Both choices are equally good. However, if you already have another dish with more than one LNB and, thus, already have a switch in your existing satellite receiving system, it may be better with two separate LNBs. If so, talk to somebody who can advise you. Q: What is this switch that has been mentioned? A: It is a small box where the signals from the two heads (LNBs) are combined. ![]() Q: Do I need a switch if I only have a single LNB? A: No. Q: Can I buy any kind of LNB/monoblock? Are they all usable for this installation? A: In theory, the answer is "yes." However, during the past few years, there has been a significant improvement in the development of LNBs. This means that you can buy a high quality LNB (of 0.2 dB) for roughly the same price (around 150 kr, 20 Euro) that a medium quality LNB (of 0.4dB or even 0.5 dB) cost last year. Therefore, be sure to purchase a good quality LNB of 0.2 dB (or maybe of 0.3 dB, but preferably not more). I know from own experience that a good LNB of 0.2 dB can give a much better signal than an LNB of 0.4 dB. (The dB-number is an expression for the electronic internal noise in the LNB - the less, the better.) |
