Then We Fell In Love

Now to continue on with Helen's journal entry...

He couldn't believe I actually made the cookies in a half hour. I even did the dishes in that time. He tried to distract me while I was baking. He asked lots of questions and kept me talking but I still did it! He was funny and caring and I knew I liked him then already. Then we sat and looked through my two most recent photo albums and my cross stitch. Around 10 he said he had to go so he could catch the bus home but I wanted to keep talking to him so I offered to drive him home. He readily agreed.

I liked him a lot. When I dropped him off, he asked if he could have my phone number so he could call me. He was a real gentleman. I gladly gave it to him. He asked what I would be doing for the weekend. At that point, I had a skating date the next day and a skating event of my friend's to go to on Saturday night so I told Greg I'd be busy Saturday afternoon but after that I'd be free. (I figured I'd rather see Greg again than Geoff's skating event but Geoff's skating event turned out to be a lovely event and I enjoyed it very much.) Greg asked if he could call me Sunday and I told him I'd like that a lot.

So on Saturday I went skating and went to Geoff's skating event and got home around 10:10 pm. Greg had left a message on my answering machine, asking me to call him and we'd plan something for Sunday. I called him back and he suggested we might rent a movie. I suggested we play squash. He was OK with that so we planned for that. We'd go play squash early Sunday morning. He'd meet me at my place and then we'd go to the Nortel gym to play.

We got talking then and admitted to each other that we like each other. Probably because I told him that I had confided with Karen on Saturday afternoon about him. I had told her how I wished for a good-night kiss from him. He told me he wasn't sure that would have been right on a first date so he didn't kiss me. Then he told me that he'd be sure to make it up to me on Sunday. (He meant with a good night kiss). So I went to sleep in a dizzy happy state.

As it turned out, we spent all day Sunday together and got in a couple of kisses! It was lovely. We played squash, as we had planned (he beat me 5-0 at the mini game we had). He ended up giving the loser a hug when I asked, "Does the loser get a hug?" And he got another one when he asked, "And what does the winner get?" Another moment that should be remembered was when he was talking and we were playing at the same time. Well, I'm hard of hearing at times and a squash court is really noisy during play so I told him,
"I'm missing what you're saying" and he said,
"So I could be saying, 'I love you'." That made me go "awww, how sweet".

After squash, we drove downtown and we rented a movie at a place near his apartment and went there to watch it. The movie was "Eraser". I found his place to be very beautiful and really clean. There weren't even any crumbs in the toaster oven! He had spent Saturday cleaning. The hardwood even sparkled!

We saw each other Monday night and Tuesday night and by Wednesday, March 3, 1999 I had Greg over for supper.

Wednesday, March 3, 1999

Today he came to my house and stayed an hour past when he had planned because he started really discussing what he was looking for in a wife and that he couldn't find anything unworthy in me. He was talking this way as he had turned from my dishes he was doing to wipe off his hands and look at me. He stood there for quite a while, pondering it all.

Later, we finished the dishes together and remarked how nice it was to be here together. Then we sat on the loveseat and stared into each others eyes some more and told each other some serious stuff. He said, "I think I'm falling in love with you." I've been thinking that myself for a couple days now. At one point, he asked something that made me respond, "I'd tell you I love you." He told me how very nice that sounded and we shared some very sweet kisses. He is such a sweet, caring person. And generous. He gave me an expensive box of Godiva chocolate covered cherries when he came in tonight. He did my dishes and he smiled at me all night. I smiled right back. To see the smile in his eyes is what's making me love him. I love Greg. He loves me. We fell in love in 6 days. Craziness!
