| Hitomi Kanzaki is the main character of Escaflowne. She is a fifteen year old girl from Japan. Hitomi runs on the school's track team and is also able to tell fortunes using tarot cards. When she travels to Gaea....Hitomi starts to have mysterious visions of the future...which much to her surprise...seem to come true. Besides seeing the future...Hitomi also bears a special pendant given to her by her grandmother. It has a special connection with Van's Gaimelf...the Escaflowne. Through out the anime...Hitomi develops a crush on Allen Schezar....who looks just like Amano...her school crush. However, Hitomi also cares about Van. Hitomi is a very bright and high spirited girl who tries to do what is right....although sometimes she tends to be alittle selfish. Hitomi is the most important character. |
| MY THOUGHTS ON HITOMI Hitomi is my favorite character from Escaflowne...and is also one of my favorite anime characters overall. Her character design is beautiful....and she is one of the few anime characters out there who isn't "perfectly beautiful". Hitomi is very smart and clever....and although she acts mature...she still has some immature feelings. (Like when she lied to Millerna about Allen..) Of all the characters in Escaflowne...Hitomi gathers the most attention. Not because she is the main character...but because her character is the easiest to relate to in real life. I personally believe Hitomi loves Van...but she is in denial because she liked Allen first. I think she sees Allen as being more romantic and grown-up because he is older...and she finds that attractive. Hitomi doesn't seem to be very well liked by Merle or Millerna...but thats to be expected. She grabs both Van's and Allen's attention....which is just too much for the two to take. |
