The first time I came to America was the time my family and I went to
Minneapolis. After we visited Uncle Nean's family, Joseph, Naomi (Who was a
baby), and Renne, we went to Seattle (Now is my home) to visit two of my other
uncles' families. Then we traveled to San Francisco and Los Angeles for two more
weeks. This vacation took about a month. I enjoyed my trip in America very much.
And I also learned a lot about Americans. When I first saw Americans, I thought
they are very strong and incredibly tall. I thought Americans are gigantic
people, with huge bodies and stout faces. May be that's because I didn't see
many tall and big people in Hong Kong. Most Americans are taller and more
muscular than Chinese. After that long vacation, I found out that a lot of
Americans are nice people. But of course, at that time, I was only about four or
five years old. I was only in kindergarden. I even forgot what I did at that
time.
I like going on vacations and I like traveling. I don't care where I go, and I
don't care when I go. I enjoy exploring countries that I have never gone to. So
far, I have gone to multitudinous of famous cities and countries: Hong Kong,
Beijing, Tai Wan, Thailand, Germany, France, England, Holland, Belgium, San
Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Toronto, Vancouver, Minneapolis, Japan,
Sydney (Where I was born), and Seattle. I think there is more, I just forgot
some of them. But anyway, there are a lot of differences between Americans and
other people. It seems that Americans talk faster and earn more money than other
people. That's probably because the houses are bigger in America. And they speak
English, the most common language in the world. Although English is my second
language, I felt that I understand what Americans said when I first went to
U.S.A.. Americans are really extraordinary peoples, no doubt at all. They talk a
lot and they are very polite people. They say hi to each other every day, even
if they don't know each other. In Hong Kong, most of the Chinese don't say hi or
say good morning to strangers. Americans are probably friendlier than Chinese.
In summer 2001, my family and I moved to Seattle, Washington. Why? There is only
one reason; learn English. Well, may be it's also because we wanted to live in a
bigger house. I still remember the first time I stepped into my new school in
Seattle. I was so frightened and nervous. I was about to go to a school which
people talks in English! Before I moved to Seattle, I didn't really know how to
communicate people with English. That's why I had no idea what to do when I had
my first class. But after few months, I learned how to use English to
communicate and I began to understand what the teachers were talking about.
After my school year in Seattle, I met many friends and I felt good about that.
I finally finished my second school year after a whole year of hard work in
2003. I comprehended a lot of things about Americans. I found out only about
half of the Americans are nice. I also realized that only few of the Americans
are strong and tall. At least I am taller than some of my classmates. And you
know what, I skipped a grade! That's mean my classmates are elder than me. Most
of the Americans think that they are perfect people. Many Americans think that
they are better than anyone else. They are too proud of themselves. Numerous of
Americans don't care about other peoples' feelings. They just don't care about
other peoples' lives. They think other peoples don't have lives. Of
course peoples have lives! But there is one good thing about the
Americans. There are nice Americans and there are mean Americans. Many smart
Americans are living in this modern world. That's why Americans are so powerful
right now. That's why U.S.A. is now one of the most popular countries in this
world. They know how to communicate with other peoples. And that's why English
is so common in this world presently.
