Landscape

Landscape is the great subject of Chinese painting, which call Shan-shui. Superficially, landscape is the subject matter. In reality, it is the human emotion or characteristic underneath that count. Chinese Painting is not about imitating the nature; it is a symbol of eternity. It is the projection of one’s characters and perceptions. In the philosophy of ancient China, artists are regarded as a traveler, traveling between mountains and rivers, also traveling in painting. It is not about the optical reality of nature itself but about the existence of human with nature. It is silence. It is poetic. It is intelligent.

I would like to use the Landscape, as a subject matter, to define the humanity of contemporary world. When one look at a landscape, one could feels existence, with the nature but not the self or nature alone. It is about the existence of human. It is about the interrelation between societies, culture and person. Landscape painting would be the subject matter to express ones perception and aesthetic. I think it is challenging yet enjoyable to do landscape painting in an urban city, where her nature is hidden and reformed.
