Chow's best 80s work!

HK Box office Taking: A modest taking...

Danny Lee is a cop, a mentor, a human and an actor, but more importantly he will be forever remembered as the guy or lad who paved Stephen Chow’s early opportunities, when he was struck in TVB’s child show 403. Without Lee, there will be no superstar, so even if Chow hates him now, he should be thankful that Lee discovered him and believed in him. Surely Final Justice is a movie best remembered for Stephen Chow’s only trophy for Best Supporting Actor, but it isn’t a bad movie at all, and perhaps one of Chow’s best before he became a superhero! Though that’s not saying much, but I have got to say that his serious yet at times comic timing shows that he does and can display good emotional range. I remember one respectable guy telling me that the dramatic acting is hard, but comical acting is by far the hardest, because making someone else laugh not only require comic timing, but extremely good acting. That’s why I always think Chow is a great actor and he showed some true early promise in this very familiar flick that actually works.

While it is impossible to not mention once again, how far Danny Lee has fallen to the point that he is at the end of the scales to Stephen Chow, but there is really no one, not even Jackie Chan, that can really pull off as a cop as believable and with such ease as Lee Sir. Sure, Final Justice is taps on very familiar territory, but maybe it is Stephen Chow’s excellent and likable performance and Danny Lee at his intense best (not far from the intensity he shown in The Killer), lifting life into a flick that would not have got my attention of buying, if not for them. As far as Stephen Chow’s 80s movies are concern, this is by far the best, but even so that’s not saying a hell lot and it is ultimately forgettable.

I rate it 7.5/10
