The Nits
When this gate is open or being opened, you can see the fire-marble dome spinning. But when the gate's closed, it spins no longer.
After you touch the stones in the gateway puzzle in the right order, the water moves along the channels to the back of the room. But turn away and then back, and you'll notice that some water has returned and taken up residence behind the wahrk stone.
The tracks from afar. |

Backwards lighting: Gehn's gaffe, or Cyan's? |
 |
Atrus has fixed the sun. |
 |
This is the single worst production problem in the game: While you're on Riven, the time of day doesn't change, which means the sunlight and shadows should all be the same. When you ride the mine cart from Jungle Island to Bookmaking Island, it should be lit from the right. The problem: it's LIT FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE! Fortunately, when you ride the cart the other way, the sun has returned to its proper position.
Again, the time of day instantly changes. Look at the hut. Then look up: Instant shadows!
Oh, Aaaaatrus...?! |
What's with Gehn and the sun anyway? The shadows are on the wrong side when you look at the shaft to the mine cart up close. They're fine everywhere else.
Sub gone... |
PING! Sub there! |
Here's an absolute GEM sent to me by Torbjorn Mathisen! When the sub is raised on the platform by the village, that magic D'ni cloaking device comes into play! If you're outside the prison cell and spin the wheel to open the door, you'll see the door opening. Right then the cloak must be activated because the sub on the plateau is GONE. Once the door is open the sub instantly pops into place!
More disappearing sub acts brought to you by Sean. When you first come into the big lagoon through the blue-lit cave, everyone up at the huts notices you coming and hurries into hiding. As soon as they're all gone (when the video finishes) the sub on the plateau instantly disappears. Look to the side and back and it's visible again.
Is the bridge outside the big dome leading to Bookmaking Island up or down? From the clear-cut area, it's neither, because it's gone!
In addition, it's permanently down if viewed from the swinging bridge leading to the clear-cut area.
The window in the submarine must have selective properties. From just about anywhere above the water, you can see the stick holding the wooden eye in place. But from the submarine, it's invisible.
Observations
Some of you may wonder where the wahrks Gehn uses for executions are. Or maybe you think they were in the lagoon, which isn't possible because the bars under the gallows are too close together. I personally believe there is a system of caves under the cliff and lagoon, connected to the ocean, where the wahrks are.
The fact that the platform under the submarine plateau is in the way when the sub is lowered has been widely acknowledged as a nit, including a mention on the Cyan website. I find it perfectly conceivable that the platform could retract when the sub is lowered and then extend.
That looks like another tunnel or passage under the path. Things like this make me wish you could go off the main paths.
