6. Samuel WALDROP I
was born about 1766 in Newberry Co., S.C.. He died on 23 Nov 1799 in Newberry
Co., S.C.. [Note: Jan Dawson 1998 --- The land of James Waldrop, son of Luke,
bordered on that of the Griffins and Davenports, and these people were constantly
named in the same estate papers as witnesses, relatives, purchasers, etc. It
appears that they were a close group, so it is not surprising that Samuel SR.
married women from both families. The Newberry Co., SC. land of Samuel Waldrop
was on Mudlick Creek near the Laurens Co., line per Deed D2-83, dated 26 May
1797. Mudlick Creek runs from a few miles inside Laurens Co., SC. across the
border into Newberry Co. Therefore some of these families lived in Newberry
and some in Laurens. Samuel Waldrop's administrator of his estate was RICHARD
HENDERSON WALDROP, who relinquished his rights because of "infirmities."
On 29 Oct 1799, administration was granted to Robert WORKMAN. Jonathan Davenport
asked to be released as security for Robert Workman because he did not consider
him capable of administering the estate. It appears he was right becasue on
2 Dec 1811, letters were granted to Bryant Leek for administration of the estate
of Samuel Waldrop, SR. Bryant Leek made returns in 1812 and 1817 for payments
to Robert Workman, husband of Samuel's daughter Patsy Waldrop. 1821, payment
was made in full to Samuel's son , Samuel Waldrop JR., for $268.75]
1796 ---SAMUEL WALDROP to JAMES WALDROP on 16 Nov 1796, Deed 2-354 (possibly
the second deed recorded in Newberry Co., SC.) Note signed by James Davenport

1797 --- WILLIAM ANDERSON of Newberry Co., conveyed to SAMUEL WALDROP
of Laurens Co., on 26 May 1797, Deed Book "D" page 2-83. 310 acres
located on Mudlick Creek in Newberry Co. originally granted to James McCool
on 31 Oct 1766 and conveyed to Moses Embre 19 Sep 1774, who conveyed it
to Robert Gillam 29 Oct 1779... Witnessed by: Charles Porterfield, Christian
Brown. Receipted by William Anderson 26 May 1797 for 110 pounds sterling, as
full consideration. Probated 10 Jul 1797. Dower: Martha Anderson.
1798 --- SAMUEL WALDROP on 15 Feb 1798, Deed Book "D" 2-354. A note
was given SAMUEL WALDROP by James Davenport for $80.00 dated 16 Nov 1796. Newberry

B, page 576 Box 22, Pack 19, Newberry Co., SC. Probate Office was dated 7 Aug
1799. The will was unfinished but probated 22 Oct 1799. It names wife Susana
[second wife Susanna Griffin] Abia Griffen, Susanna's brother, was named administrator.
She is called Susanna Waldrop in her other brother's will. Abia Griffen is also
named.], daugher Patsy Waldrop [daugher by former marriage to Miss Davenport]
and the girl's grandfather, James Davenport. Bequest to Samuel Waldrop JR.,
1/3 part of his estate "to the child that my wife is now big with."
A Harmon Waldrop paid money from the estate 1800/01. Unborn child is evidently
Samuel, Jr. who received his full share of $268.75 in 1821 when he reached 21.
1800 ---Dr. W. Lee's bill for visiting Samuel Waldrop from 5 Jul 1799 through
7 Aug 1799 is recorded for dressing an ulcer on his leg 27 times and for medicine
for $119.25 was paid by the administrator 15 Jan 1800. On Jan 11, 1801,
34$ was received of Administrator of estate of Samuel Waldrop, it being in
full of all demands against said estate. It was signed James Casey Waldrop
for Harmond Waldrop (probably the Harmon who went to Georgia). On 31 Mar 1800,

Susannah) on 2 Dec 1811 asked to Ordinary Samuel Lindsey, to release him
as security of Robert Workman on account of Workman being "incapable
of administering the estate of Samuel Waldrop." ... Letters were granted
to Briant Leake on 2 Dec 1811, after Robert Workman did not appear to refute
the charges. Briant Leake made returns on the estate of Samuel Waldrop in 1812,
1817, and 1821 as follows:
