INLAND SAILING AT IT'S BEST

The Henley Midmar Yacht Club can be found on the picturesque shores of Midmar Dam in the
Natal Midlands of Kwa Zulu Natal.
The dam is just off the N3 highway, (en route to Gauteng) approximately 90 km from Durban, which is on the Kwa
Zulu Natal east coast and only 25 km from its
Capital , Pietermarizburg.

The dam is situated on the Umgeni River, near the quaint town
of Howick, which is world famous for the Howick Falls and more
recently the Howick monster rumoured to be living at the base.

The dam has a catchment area along the Umgeni River of 928 sq. km and covers an area of
1564 hectares when full, holding 178 million cubic meters of water.

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Midmar Dam is therefore generally accepted as offering the best inland sailing waters in
South Africa, and is the cleanest freshwater dam in the province. The dam not only offers
superb sailing waters, private bays and inlets, with variable weather paterns but also falls within
the boundaries of a Game Reserve run by KZN Nature
Conservation Services.

This creates an ideal and tranquil setting where one can cruise along the shoreline
and view the wild game and birdlife from the comfort and safety of your own yacht.
Other attractions on the dam include power boating, water ski-ing and fishing.
