Most of the primate pictures were completed in the mid ‘80s. Many of them feature passages of texture and mosaic. I was endeavoring to create figurative imagery while avoiding direct depictions of the human figure. The primate pictures say something about religion, proclaiming my “faith” in science and evolution. A primate, in the Catholic lexicon, is a high-ranking bishop — a coincidence I enjoyed.
