Vintage Blues

One of the most common articles of clothing in any
hepcat or retro aficionados wardrobe is a good 'ole
pair of jeans. And I'd bet the farm that the most common
brand of dungarees you'd find are Levis.
What else can be said about a company that has survived a great earthquake, two World Wars and more changes to pop culture than you could shake a stick at. I'm sure most of you know that an original pair of 501xx from the 1950s or 1960s can run big bucks. Levis has been making reproductions of their vintage jeans for almost 10 years. Today though Levis has reproduced their most complete and extensive line ever. Thats right folks not only can you get an exact reproduction of a pair of 1953 Big E 501xx. Now you can also get a 1940's t-shirt, 1930's long sleeved undershirt, 1930's slipover sweater, and get this a 1907 golf shirt. I've got to say though that the most interesting article of clothing that Levis has reproduced are a pair of 1873 miner pants. Complete with donut hole suspender buttons, cinch buckle back and exposed rivets. Levis has recreated the look and feel of the original jeans by manufacturing them on the original looms with 10oz denim. Unfortunately the repros can't be found everywhere (no you won't find 'em at sears). The only place in the Chicagoland area that has them is Barney's of New York. Although if you visit www.Levis.com you can view the repro line and maybe find ordering info. Good Luck! |
