KNIGHT INDUSTRIES TWO THOUSAND
K.I.T.T.
The
Knight Industries Two Thousand (K.I.T.T.) was F.L.A.G.'s primary asset
until recently. K.I.T.T. was built to protect the life of Michael
Knight. K.I.T.T.'s prototype, the Knight Automated Roving Robot (K.A.R.R.),
was de-activated because Wilton Knight feared it could not be controlled.
The difference between K.I.T.T. and K.A.R.R. was in the computers programming.
K.I.T.T. was programmed for the preservation of human life, K.A.R.R. was
programmed for self-preservation. This made K.A.R.R. unreliable.
About a year after K.I.T.T. had hit the road, K.A.R.R. was re-activated
accidentally, and the two met. K.A.R.R. was run off a cliff by Michael
& K.I.T.T. only to reappear a short while later. The final time
they confronted each other, K.A.R.R. was destroyed.
The Knight Industries Two Thousand was the fastest, safest & strongest
car in the world when it was built. The cost of the unit was approximately
$11,400,000. What set K.I.T.T. apart from all other cars was its
computer system and its MBS (Molecular Bonded Shell).

Convertible -
Turns K.I.T.T. into a sleek convertible.
The K.I.T.T. was entirely run by microprocessors,
which made the car fully automated. The vehicle was able to control everything
from playing a tape to driving itself. The voice circuitry in the K.I.T.T.
allowed the car to talk to it's driver and communicate all system operation
information. The Microprocessor's voice was named KITT, a play on the model
number of the vehicle. The voice modulator was changed from a red square
to a bar graph display early on because Knight Industry research scientists
felt that the red square was rather hypnotic.
