Who's "Buffy"? Who's "Angel"? What vampires? | ||
Buffy and Angel are characters on the show "Buffy: the Vampire Slayer" (and, now, the new spin-off show, "Angel"). If you haven't seen either show, you probably won't like this site. In case all you need is a refresher course, I'll go on. Buffy starts off in "BtVS" as a sixteen-year-old girl who has just moved, along with her divorced mother, from Los Angeles to a small town called Sunnydale. She has normal problems: a caring but misunderstanding mother, friend fueds, boyfriend issues, and homework. But Buffy also has some completely unusual problems: cleaning vampire dust (as well as blood) out of clothes, carrying stakes without making it obvious, a stiffy-seeming British Watcher, and burning down school gyms filled with vampires. For you see, Buffy is the Chosen One, the Slayer, the "one girl in the world with the strength and skill to fight the vampires, the demons, and the forces of Darkness." Angel is a vampire. He's roughly two-hundred-forty-two years old, and was born, raised, and killed in Galway, Ireland. Angel--called Angelus, then--roamed the world as a mortal-killing monster, merciless like all his race. When he made the mistake of killing a young gypsy girl who was favored by the rest of her clan, Angelus was cursed by that gypsy clan; he was given a human soul, a human conscience, and upwards of one-hundred years of guilt for his sins. Eventually, the guilt-ridden demon-with-a-soul came to Sunnydale, where he met the Slayer. You guessed it: boy meets girl, boy and girl like each other, boy turns out to be mortal enemy of girl. |

What's "fic"? |
Fanfiction, and its shorter versions ("fanfic" and "fic"), is the term coined by fans of TV shows and movies that wanted to write their own stories in the worlds that intrigue them. It's a compound word, taken from "fan" -- short for "fanatic" -- and "fiction". The stories range from only a few paragraphs long, to hundreds and hundreds of pages. Fanfic is not at all limited to stories written in the Buffy world, there's Forever Knight fanfic, X-Men fanfic, "Flash Gordon" fanfic, Blake's Seven fanfic--you name it, there's fic for it. |

What does "BAFFA" stand for? |
"BAFFA" stands for the Buffy and Angel Fan Fiction Archive. |
May I submit non-B/A story here? |
This archive's sole purpose is to show off some of the great writing talents that the relationship between these two television characters has inspired. Therefore, only stories with Buffy and Angel together will be allowed in this archive. They don't have to be the main couple (though it helps), but they have to be together in some way, shape, or form. |
If I submit a story or poem, how long do I have to wait before it appears at the BAFFA? |
There is only one person running this site. She loves Buffy and Angel fanfiction, and she loves running and updating this site -- but, unfortunately, she also has a Real Life. Thus, the "waiting time" can be anything from a few days to a few weeks. Unless something unusual is happening (like the BAFFA Birthday Bash), then you can expect your story or poem to be up in the next update after you submit it. |
There's a problem with something at the BAFFA. Should I tell someone about it? |
Yes! Please e-mail the archivist at salatina@juno.com with any problems you may come across at this site. That's the only way that they're going to get fixed! |
What's the whole "Buffydom" deal? |
"Buffydom"--dorky a name as it is--it the name I've given to my collection of "Buffy" fanfiction websites. There are currently only two that are still working, this site (the BAFFA), and SalFic. |
Why create this web site, when there are so many other Buffy/Angel sites on the web? |
Surprisingly enough, the BAFFA has been around for a while. When it was first created, the Buffy/Angel fanfiction sites out there weren't as plentiful. But, besides that, I wanted to create a web site about something I cared about, and this turned up. |
I want to create my own Buffy/Angel website. How do I start? |
It's wonderful that you want to start your own website. The first thing you need to do is find a place to host your site. I recommend Geocities, the server I use, or Tripod, Angelfire, or Crosswinds. Each of those services should provide you with help in creating the pages, or files, that make up a website. If you have a SPECIFIC question about HTML or creating any kind of website, feel free to ask me at salatina@juno.com. I will answer as best I can. |
