The latest chapter in the chronicle of Hong Kong triads. In this episode, Hung Hing society head Chan Ho Nam turns his sights towards legitimizing his empire by going in business with a Malaysian tycoon looking to build a presence in Hong Kong. At the same time, he is pressured by Szeto Ho Nam, a Wise Guy who wants to expand into his territory, and Officer Lee, who has just been assigned to clean up Causeway Bay. And then there's Mei Ling (Shu Kei), the goddaughter of powerful Uncle Seven who has caught his eye... By this point, the formula for the series is pretty much nailed down, and this film follows it to a tee.
After the 4th sequel of Y&D, I wasn't sure if this one would be any good, considering that in YD4 there wasn't much of Ekin. Surprisingly, the 2 hour movie turned out to be very entertaining (and this time, the story totally reflected on Ho Nam's life), yet it springs out the simple expected "triad" plot that the audience is familiar to by now. It was filled with many laughs (the famous magic trick performed by the cute Cantonese/mandarin accent of Shu Kei), yet a touch of sadness.
Basically, I think the strong characters are the ones who made this film enjoyable. They are so authentic that the audience may feel the growth of the characters as the sequels progress and may become attached to them. It's recommended if you have watched the previous sequels and it actually gained my faith in watching the 6th one...if any.
