Recall notification number: 875
Recall date: September 20, 2002
Affected part: Starter motor solenoid
Fault description: A particular contact point in the starter motor
solenoid can suffer from excessive wear, resulting in a short circuit
that causes the starter motor to remain engaged until it overheats
and ignites. This has the potential to cause a fire in the engine
compartment.
Solution: Starter motor solenoid is replaced with a new part
Chassis numbers of affected vehicles:
CE4-1000033 - CE4-1041994
CE4-1100001 - CE4-1106441
CE5-1000040 - CE5-1007168
CE5-1100001 - CE5-1100617
This recall also affects certain Inspire, Saber and Vigor models.
Course of action: Contact your local Honda dealer as soon as possible
to arrange an appointment to have the part replaced. This replacement
is totally free of charge.
There was also an earlier recall to replace the rear speaker
wiring, but I don't have any details on this. My understanding is
that the insulation on the rear speaker wires could be damaged from
rubbing against the parcel shelf, posing a fire hazard.
For each recall there should be a small round green sticker
in the corner of the rear windscreen. |
