Introduction

Hospital Kuala Krai serves the population of Kuala Krai district. Apart from that it also serves as referral hospital for Machang and Gua Musang district.

Initially O & G unit only cater for normal delivery and all complicated case was referred either to Hospital Kota Bharu or Hospital USM. This is because no resident specialist at this hospital. Visiting specialist from Hospital Kota Bharu run a specialist clinic once a month. However since August 1998 a clinical specialist was posted to hospital Kuala Krai to establish a proper O & G unit.

To start establish a specialist unit in an existing district hospital is very challenging task. With minimal equipment and supporting staff it is difficult to run specialist unit with full scale. Inspite of several efforts to get some infrastructures requirement and equipment to the unit little was achieved apart from drawing up the plan and paper work.

In early part of the establishment of the unit major surgery only done during office hour, but since February 1999 emergency surgery also done after office hour.

With time, hopefully this hospital will become a well known specialist centre especially to cater the population of the southern part of Kelantan state.

Objective

Play an important role in providing maternal and child health care.
Aim to become another referral hospital after Kota Bharu Hospital.
To maintained baby friendly hospital status and continue to promote breast feeding.
