Flyers and Setlists

Hosstages Flyers

Flyers have a single purpose: to get people to your shows! Besides having "who," "when," "where," and "how much" information, flyers must also be interesting to look at. Creativity was not an issue for Hosstages flyers; each one has its own distinct humor. Take a look for yourself!

ABOVE: This June 14, 1996 "Sea of Timeless" show with Whervin, Shotgun Kitty Kat, Bouncing Betty, and Bearlicker (the latter three being recent Battle of the Bands participants. Even though this flyer is "pre-Hosstage," it exemplifies David's cartooning talent.

ABOVE: Flyers for our first show at the Somber Reptile! The flyer on the left was made by F.A.F., and the flyer on the right is undoubtedly a Matysiak creation.

ABOVE: One of our biggest shows at Under the Couch was with Torture Kitty (signed to VML Records), the Loose Screws, the Drummonds, and the Other Ones. I believe that this was our first show with the Drummonds or the Other Ones (later known as "The Brutes"). The left flyer shows off David's crude morphing techniques, as well as a short-lived band name change (which David insisted on at the time). The right flyer features many of our friends as captured in elementary/middle school yearbook photographs. [NOTE: The Torture Kitty flyer left out the second "s" in "Hosstages," and if/when I find the flyer, I'll put it up here.]

ABOVE: I'm pretty sure Alex LaRoche was behind this little "Mr. T" flyer. If this flyer could talk, it would probably say, "Come to the show SUCKA, unless you want a fist full of gold colliding with your face!!"

ABOVE: The Jet by Day CD Release Party/Show flyer, also done by Alex. As I recall, this was quite a good show.

Hosstages Set Lists

Set lists help band members keep track of which songs they've played so far, as well as the songs that they have yet to play in a show. But even such a seemingly ordinary set list is no match for the Hosstages-brand sense of humor, as evidenced below.

ABOVE: "Them Darn' Hosstages" were up to no good at their first performance on November 21, 1997! The "Reruns" notation above the "Tad Rap" song meant for us to start the song like we were playing "She's Back" by the Reruns, but then switch suddenly to the "Tad Rap" unexpectedly. The "Tad Rap" false start would become a Hosstage trademark.

ABOVE: A random set list with jotted notes in the margins. The "TUNE!!!" next to "Tad Rap" was a reminder to get David to tune his guitar after Hawaii, since it was played in "Drop-D."

ABOVE: The 1998 Dunwoody High School "Battle of the Bands" show set list. Featuring two cover songs (three, if we had played NOFX's "Linoleum" at the beginning of the "Tad Rap") out of a short 6-song set, Jet by Day took home first prize ($200) which went into making "Autumn means its all downhill."
