Patrick Forge

Having left college in 85 with a degree in philosophy. Patrick found himself hooked up with Jonathon More, original founder member of pirate station Kiss F.M and notorious DJ from the then buoyant warehouse scene, soon to be named "Coldcut". Working with More at the infamous Reckless Records in Soho, Forge established a wide set of contacts around the still very underground rare groove scene. However, Patricks first love was Jazz, as an ardent follower of the styles originated by the legendary DJ Paul Murphy and the whole cornucopia of jazz-dance, Patrick petitioned the likes of More and fellow Kiss DJ Norman Jay to press station boss Gordon Mac to bring in a more dedicated jazz DJ to the roster. Things worked out well with Kiss and Patrick was more than pleased to be part of Londons highest profile pirate radio station with the freedom to broadcast a jazz and fusion based show with a few eccentric selections!

In 1987 Gilles Peterson, having done his apprenticeship at the Electric Ballroom and developed his own thing as part of Nicky Holloway's Special Branch, was setting up a new club at Dingwalls on a Sunday afternoon. He invited Patrick to join in and for the next 4 and a half years the club ran and pioneered that Acid Jazz thang, as it was the first club to mix hip hop and jazz, seeing the debut of talented performers such as Galliano and the Brand New Heavies to name but a few.

Since then Patrick Forge has been involved in a wide range of DJ activities with London sessions such as The Fez, Respect, Kudu as well as co-hosting with Peterson the Talkin Loud sessions at Brixtons Fridge as well as Djing in Europe and Japan.

During the nineties Patrick has become synonymous with the Rebirth Of Cool series, compiled by Patrick for Island Records. These L.Ps have catalogued the contemporary developments in Jazz related areas of dance music from Gangstarrs Jazz Thing to Jazz Warriors and Chameleon.
