Dorothy Stiefel
Dorothy Stiefel, Founder and Executive director,
knows only too well how important timely intervention is, and one of her first projects
was to initiate the "Buddy Network" in the mid-70's. Working form the frame of her own
untimely (and inaccurate) prognosis of impending blindness, she knew what was most important
to teach newly diagnosed patients.
Late in the 80's, TARP members
urged her to put her thoughts and experiences into a publication so others around the world
could have access to publications about her day-to-day feelings in the privacy of their
own homes. She has continued to do this throughout the years.
Dorothy travels frequently and
gives presentations about "making the connection with others and with life itself."
She and her husband have seven
grown children. 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She admits she is not
happy unless she is chatting or visiting with people because, she says, she was born
being a "people person".
