Joseph Leonard Morgan:

Joseph Leonard Morgan was born on September 19, 1943 in Bonham , Texas . Joseph is a former Major League Baseball second baseman, considered by the fans as the second greatest player after Rogers Hornsby. Morgan was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990. Morgan was signed by the Houston Colt .45s as a part-time free agent in 1962. He played dynamically with Houston until a multi-player trade got him to Cincinnati Reds in the 1972 season. With the Cincinnati Reds his career took a high. He made eight consecutive All-Star Game appearances from 1972 to 1979. Along with teammates Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez and Dave Concepción, Morgan led the Reds to successive Championships in the World Series. Morgan was also the National League Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1975 and 1976. Morgan's lifetime hitting record average is .271. He hit between .288 and .327, during his crest years with the Reds. Morgan has also hit 268 home runs and 545 doubles and triples, which shows his excellent power for a middle infielder during his time. Morgan was an outstanding infielder for which he won the Gold Glove Award from 1972 to 1976. Currently, Morgan works as a baseball announcer for ESPN networks. In his broadcasting career, Morgan has won a CableACE award (with Jon Miller) in 1990 and an Emmy Award for sports analysis in 1998.
