IT'S IN THE CARDS _______________________________________________________ Since time immemorial people have sought a method of foretelling the future, of clarifying the now, and of putting the past into perspective. Seemingly every culture had its fortunetellers. Many are the methods of seering. The twentieth century witnessed a resurgence of the art of sortilege. Tarot card readers are to be found in every stratum of society. Divination by runic formulae has exploded into popular culture. The following is my interpretation of the 52-card deck. ___________________________________________________ Hearts: life, love, happiness. Desires __________________________________________________ The New Moons, thirteen in number, of the year are represented by the thirteen cards contained within each suit. The twelve court cards (the 'face' cards) represent the months of the year and stand-in for the signs of the zodiac; the total number of cards in the deck represent the fifty-two weeks of the year. The suits are representational of the divisions of the day with diamonds being the clarity of the morning, clubs mid-day, hearts the evening hours and spades the hours of nighttime. Diamonds further represent events that are immediate; clubs are those events than occur in their good-and-proper timeframe; hearts move slowly and sometimes hesitate; spades demonstrate delay, postponement and can come to nothing. __________________________________________________ Dealing the cards into a readable spread can be done in countless ways. The common tarot deck spreads work equally as well with the 52-card deck: the Celtic Cross spread is readily comparable between the decks as is the three card advise spread and the seven card time-line spread. However, I have found that a basic five card spread gives the most detailed and accurate readings. Additional cards can be laid upon any or all of the positions to define, guide, edit, unfold or expand upon the information presented by the individual cards and the tale told by their combining. Good reading! Card One: How We Prosper Addendum 01/06/01, over the last few weeks the following has become the most workable and most astute lay-out for me and for my clients. 2 3 1 5 4 This layout incorporates: __________________________________________________ |
