Easy cache and go on an overlooked important monument

Labor Day weekend brought one of the deadliest hurricanes to the Florida Keys. Over 700 people died. One of the lowest barometer readings ever recorded was measured during this hurricane. Henry Flager was building the Florida East Coast Railroad otherwise known as the "Overseas Highway" which you drive on to get to Key West. Many workers on the construction of the railroad were veterns and got caught in the storm. A rescue train was sent but it was too late and was overturned (except the train's engine "old 447")near the cache site by the storm-driven tidal surge.

The coordinates above are for the plaque describing your cache site: to get the coordinates for the cache itself, you must:
1. Locate the barometer reading (posted on the plaque) for information about the cache lat/long.
2. To obtain the latitude (degrees north), simply subtract 2 from the last digit of the gps coordinate.
3.To obtain the longitude (degrees west), take the first two digits of the barometer reading and subtrate from the last two numbers on the gps coordinate.

Look at the monument-the wind direction will push you toward the cache site.
Beware of mugglers on the monument itself. Cache site should protect you from them.

We actually found this one in 2005 but somehow missed logging it. So, we did it again but skipping the first stage as we already knew where the final was. TFTC!

I've been doing some reading about this storm. Thanks for bringing me here. And it's near the must-stop sporting goods store, also! TFTC

1455 Some nice history to read there and it was good to have to do a little math. We had a muggle close by but we weren't too concerned. It was a beautiful white bird with a long orange beak and long legs, not really sure could have been a crane. He didn't seem to be bothered by us either. Greetings from Las Vegas, NV. TFTH SL
