This cache is in Islamorada in the beautiful Florida Keys on an island not far from US-1. It is on the Indian Key State Park. You will need a boat or a kayak or take the tour boat over to the island.(phone 305-664-9814) There is a nice dock and brochures with the History of the 10 acre island located under the docks pavillion. The cache is a red waterproof tube with the usual assortment of goodies (pocketknife, keychains, stickers, etc). Once on the island you will need to seek a very large old tree with big roots. The cache is on the ground covered with leaves right next to a large root behind the tree.

Good Luck and enjoy the Park.

UPDATE !! The Park rangers are aware of the cache and asked me to remind everyone to stay on the named and numbered trails while visiting the rest of the island. Thanks Dave

[We REALLY enjoyed this caching adventure!!! We kayaked to Indian Key from US1 on our trip back from our Keys vacation. Nice Island with a lot of history, thanks for bringing us somewhere new. Cache contents were a little damp and log bag was ripped. We put existing log sheets in new sealed bag. Took: Pewter Mancubus Figure. Left: SpongeBob. Also left a pencil, & new log book in a fresh sealed bag. Main dock at the Pavilion is still damaged & not accessible, but the Island is very well maintained, and there are park brochures available. We didn’t see any park rangers, only other kayakers. We definitely encourage this cache.... great kayaking, caching & park!!!]

We parked (free) just off US1 & Launched Kayak: N 24°53.066’ W080°41.149’

There is a channel within a few yards of the launch spot, then only 2-6 feet depth out to the island. We saw small rays and a baby nurse shark. The water is crystal clear; a lot of sand and sea grass made it a beautiful kayak trip. Distance from launch to Indian Key was just under 0.75 miles.

Paddle to Indian Key: 20 Minutes
Tied up at small dock: N 24°52.708’ W080°40.677’
Walk to & find Cache: 5 - 10 minutes
Paddle back to parking/launch spot: 15 Minutes (wind in our favor).

Brochure Notes: Ranger-guided tours 9am-1pm, Thurs-Mon, $1/person. More Info: 305-664-2540.

[TFTH!!! A definite highlight of our trip!!!]

Great place! The Park rangers were fabulous! BBT and I hd rented a boat to do some snorkeling and made our way there..were given some terrific info about the area. The cache was in great shape thanks to a fellow member as noted in previous log. The dock is no longer there, so we anchored and swam in for the hunt! Good times!!! thanks for the tour!

Revisited this to drop off a TB. Dock is destroyed from Wilma. Bring some wet shoes for this one
