Veggie Dips
I have been experimenting with veggie dips and have come up with a good base recipe.
I use 1 Cup low fat plain yogurt and 1 Cup low fat Mayo. The yogurt is 2 grams of fat and 150 calories per 1 Cup, and the Mayo is 5 grams of fat and 50 calories per 1 tablespoon. I mix in powdered ranch dressing mix, or Knorr soup mixes. The fun part of this dip base, is that you can experiment with different dip mixes or come up with your own. Just be sure to check the fat, calorie, and sodium counts in the dip mixes and act accordingly for your needs! This recipe makes 16 two-tablespoon servings with 6 grams of fat and 60 calories per serving.
I tried using fat free Mayo with this recipe and it flat out sucked...BARF.
However, I have tried using 1/2 cup low fat Mayo and 1 1/2 cups of low fat yogurt and that was okay. Depending on your taste, dietary needs, and motivation (willingness to make sacrifice). You can cut back the fat and calories counts per serving to 2.5 grams of fat and 39 calories per two tablespoon serving.
The dips are great with broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. This recipe has really helped me lose weight by cutting back on the other low cal snacks I was eating. Like Guiltless Gourmet corn chips. I love corn chips and have a tendency to go overboard with them. This veggie dip snack idea is a healthier alternative and it satisfies my snack needs while cutting back on my daily fat and calorie intake.
