This book puts one of the biggest paradoxes of relativity theory and space travel under focus. But then goes on questioning what is a good society and what is not. When our hero returns from the stars, he finds himself in a world where every problem is taken care of. It is a perfect world. But still something is missing. This book is written in 1960's Poland when communism was a very strong doctrine, specially for a Polish writer. The new world order he describes and criticizes has strong resemblance with communist vision of a perfect society. Could this be Lem's answer back to the communists or his vision of future of the world?

In my opinion this book is the first science-fiction book. More's imagination is very good and for his time his style is a bit revelutionary. For this reason he had lost his head.

It includes "Bicentennial Man" and award winning (1976 Nebula Award for Best Novelette) story about a robot trying to become a human. In his struggle he has to overcome many obstacles both technological, legal and emotional. One of the best robot stories ever written.

Amazon books says that it is out of print. But still try to order it or try to find this story in other collections of Asimov robot stories. Your Asimov library will never be complete without this story.

The fifth book of the Hitch-hikers' Trilogy puts an end to the story. Kills everybody and sets Douglas Adams free.

A very wise decision indeed on Mr Adams' part as the quality of Hitchhiker books was dropping constantly. But in spite of this, this book is a good book for you if you had read and enjoyed the first four books. Do not buy this book if you have not read the beginning of the series.

The Hitchhikers idea has started as a radio series. This extremely funny (and different) series had been broadcasted by BBC many times. When a fan group was forming Adams wrote the book. The book is also very good.

Everything starts in by destruction of the Earth to make a hyper-space by-pass. Our heroes take their towels, peanuts and a wholly remarkable copy of the electronic book "The Hitchhikers Guide to Galaxy" and start hitch hiking.

This book is the best in comedy-science-fiction. But do not think it is just for fun. Read it carefully to find out it actually is a criticism of us, the Earth people.

Time travel makes it possible to see the end of the universe in a restaurant where universe explodes and vanishes while you eat your diner. But that is not all. The book is full of funny ideas and jokes. A well worthy sequel to the Hitchhikers Guide to Galaxy.

Everybody now knows the answer to the ultimate question of the life, universe and everything is 42. But nobody knows what the question is.

Will it be revealed at the end? Who knows?

A science fiction classic. I have read the British print. It included two more stories from which the ideas have been originated.

The book describes a future totalitarian society where the masses of people are ruled as if they have no identity. All links with the past and free thought is forbidden. One man tries to break the chains but this proves to be a hard task.

Very pesimistic, but still a good novel. I read it in 1983 (when it became an instant best-seller) and lived the whole year in fear (just in case the book turns out to be true and they feed my eyes to rats. brrrr)

But my favorite is "The Hunting of the Snark". Usually I do not enjoy poetry in English. I think this is because English is not my native tongue and I can hardly understand the underlying mening an poetic elemnts in English poems. However, "The Hunting of the Snark" is very different. It is an epic poem about a strange team of creatures hunting for an unkown being called the Snark.

However Nemesis is different. This book is not related to any other work by Asimov.

A distant star called Nemesis is colonized by a group of people who wanted them to be disconnected from Earth, where anarchy and chaos is prevailing. However, Nemesis is on a collision course with Earth. Now they need to communicate with the world they want to forget about.

Andrew Harlan is an Eternal, a time traveler that adjusts the history. He carefully considers the cause-and-effect relation between the events in the course of the time and eliminates the bad events by making a minimum change in the course of the events leading to the target event. In his trips he finds a girl who is quite out of her time and falls in love with her. However, things are not what they seem to be.

This book is "The Best Time Travel Book" you can read.

So they form a Foundation with best scientists and artists in a remote planet to record all knowledge in Encyclopaedia Galactica. But this is just the beginning.

Foundation is a grand opening to the Foundation Saga. You will like Asimov's logic behind the construction of the Psychohistory science. This new (!) science says that, for large groups of people, future reactions can be predicted to a certain accuracy using statistical methods. Later I have read another book called The Country of Blind where a similar idea is used. Asimov's storytelling makes the difference here.

This conflict is pre calculated and the outcome is as expected. But then something unexpected happens. A mutant starts to threaten the future of Foundation.

In this book, the First Foundation is back on track and moving on to be the greatest power in Galaxy. However, science and technology alone do not bring power.

They encounter a planet, called Gaia, where the mind and soul of everything on the planet comes together to form a bigger mind and soul.

This idea is a reflection of Mysticism to science-fiction but Asimov makes a great job in integrating it to a science-fiction story.

This book can be read as a continuation of the saga or as a stand alone book. However reading the first three book of the saga first is better.

All robot stories by Asimov are very original. It is usually very hard to guess the end of the story and usually surprises are waiting the readers. However, all stories are very consistent in themselves and also the "Three Laws" are strictly observed.

A robot is "Murdered" and Elijah Baley will solve the mystery. The murder is related to the question of who will colonize the universe, man or robots.

As the name tells, now they are trying to find Earth, the starting point of the galactic civilization.

This book at the end brings Asimov's "Galactic History" to a complete cycle.

Very good reading for an Asimov reader. But not a good starting point.

This book is telling the story of the game. For this reason it is a book written with some limitations in mind. However it is still a nice book where our heroes are trying to save themselves and Starship Titanic from destruction (what else) in her maiden trip.

Here is the story : Some aliens built a perfect holiday cruise starship called Titanic. However, the constructors saved some bucks by eliminating vital features of its original design. In its first trip, ship goes out of control, comes to earth and picks up three unsuspecting people for a free ride. Now they have to deal with maniac robots, not-so-clever bombs, aliens, themselves, a journalist, a parrot and a professor.

God help them. (In the game version, I believe, you will be the God).

But this time, he has to confront Gods. They prove to be tough opponents but Dirk gently is quick to understand their tricks.

Another book full of clever humorous stuff. Also it is better than the first Dirk Gently book. Also, it is the first Douglas Adams book that do not involve any space creatures. Gods mentioned above are earthly.

Marvin, the paranoid android, makes his last appearance in this book. And at the end, God's final message to people is revealed.

I do not think this good is as good as the first three books of the trilogy. But still it is a Hitchhikers book and it should be read. You will not regret reading this book if you read and liked the trilogy.

Somebody gets killed. Gently is in charge of solving the murder. There are a few characters around to confuse him: an electric monk, a horse, a lovely sister of the deceased, an elderly professor, a whiz-kid, space creatures etc.

But his holistic methods solve everything, find the killer and save the earth as an added bonus.

Load of fun in Adams' style. And everything starts and finishes in one book. So you do not have to buy five books to read the end of the story.
