Meeting at 12pm-3pm at the site.
ending on Sunday at 1pm, but people can stay around til whenever!

Temple retreat.

Highlights, Momiji viewing, meet the famous monkeys!
Guided tour of the main site, guest speaker, shingon temple master, Bokkusho Inoue
from a local temple..in English!
Veggie meal for all! Japanese style bath and overnight in the main temple..Hondo. (Of course, people should bring their own snacks, lunch for both days and maybe extra
stuff for breakfast).

Sunday morning, early morning call for mornng Sutras,
Breakfast, visit to Monkey Park! and a walk to the mountain top and Tengu-do!
Pop off for an onsen nearby and relax...

Directions

By car is possibly the easiest

The Driving Directions

From Tajima region:
* Take route 312 south to Fukusaki... find route 23.
* Head west on route 23 for about 20min (Yasutomi) & turn right onto route 29 (for Tottori) at the T-junction.
* Follow route 29 for 5.5km (Yamasaki) & turn left onto route 53 (for Sayo & Chikusa) soon after passing under the Chugoku Highway.

[FAST ALTERNATIVE: Take the Bantan toll road south and Chugoku Highway west to Exit 10, Yamasaki, & exit onto route 29 towards Tottori... this will cost YEN.]
* Follow route 53 for 15km (Nanko) & turn right onto route 72 (for Chikusa) at the T-junction. [NOTE: 5km along route 53 on the left is 'Yamazaki' the last convenience store you'll pass for Sat/Sun lunch supplies, etc.]
* Follow route 72 for 6km... look for cutesy Monkey Park signs on the way & a white sign marked "Ruriji Temple" just before turning left into the entrance.
* Continue 1km past the outer temple gate to the parking area.

From Central & East Hyogo:
* Take the Chugoku Highway west to Exit 10, Yamasaki (this will cost YEN), & exit onto route 29 (for Tottori).
* Go about 500m on route 29 & turn left onto route 53 (for Sayo & Chikusa).
[SLOW ALTERNATIVE: Take the FREE roads which more or less follow the Chugoku Highway west including routes 23 & 29 from Fukusaki as above.]
* Follow route 53 for 15km (Nanko) & turn right onto route 72 (for Chikusa) at the T-junction. [NOTE: 5km along route 53 on the left is 'Yamazaki', the last convenience store you'll pass for Sat/Sun lunch supplies, etc.]
* Follow route 72 for 6km... look for cutesy Monkey Park signs on the way & a white sign marked "Ruriji Temple" just before turning left into the entrance.
* Continue 1km past the outer temple gate to the parking area.

From Himeji:
* From the Himeji bypass or Himeji-nishi bypasss, find route 29 (for Tottori).
* Follow route 29 north for about 45min (Yamasaki) & turn left onto route 53 (for Sayo & Chikusa) soon after passing under the Chugoku Highway.
* Follow route 53 for 15km (Nanko) & turn right onto route 72 (for Chikusa) at the T-junction. [NOTE: 5km along route 53 on the left is 'Yamazaki', the last convenience store you'll pass for Sat/Sun lunch supplies, etc.]
* Follow route 72 for 6km... look for cutesy Monkey Park signs on the way & a white sign marked "Ruriji Temple" just before turning left into the entrance.
* Continue 1km past the outer temple gate to the parking area.

From Tatsuno & Southwest region:
* Take route 179 north (through Shingu & Mikazuki) to Nanko & turn right onto route 72 (for Chikusa).
* Follow route 72 for about 15km... look for cutesy Monkey Park signs on the way & a white sign marked "Ruriji Temple" just before turning left into the entrance. * Continue 1km past the outer temple gate to theparking area.

Public Transport details

From Tajima region:
* Take the BANTAN LINE south from WADAYAMA to HIMEJI (change of trains likely).
* AS BELOW (HIMEJI)...

From Amagasaki/Kobe/Akashi/etc:
* Take a 'Special Rapid' (shinkaisoku) train west to HIMEJI.
* AS BELOW (HIMEJI)...

From Himeji:
* Take Bus 31 from HIMEJI STATION (left opposite the north entrance) to YAMASAKI BUS STATION (58min/1110yen)... am 8:50, 10:50, 11:50, pm12:50.
* Transfer to a bus for CHIKUSA & ask to get off at FUNAKOSHI/RURIJI (32min/790yen)... am10:25, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00. [NOTE: The bus times from HIMEJI given above connect with the onward bus from YAMASAKI... there are more services in between if you don't mind a longer wait connecting.]
* Wait near the bus stop for car ferries to the main temple... or it's a nice 1km walk!

From Central & East Hyogo:
* If you live along or near the Chugoku Highway, take any highway bus heading west and get off at YAMASAKI I.C.
* Transfer to any bus heading for YAMASAKI BUS STATION (5min/???yen).
* Transfer to a bus for CHIKUSA & ask to get off at FUNAKOSHI/RURIJI (32min/790yen)... am10:25, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00.
* Wait near the bus stop for car ferries to the main temple... or it's a nice 1km walk!

Sunday Return:
* Buses depart FUNAKOSHI/RURIJI for YAMASAKI BUS
STATION at 13:52, 16:03, 17:03 & 17:57 (32min/790yen)... although quite a few lifts should be available!
* Connecting buses depart YAMASAKI BUS STATION for HIMEJI STATION at 14:30, 17:00, 18:00 & 19:00 (59min/1110yen).
