Steve-O
A lesson in tolerance of bad
screen names. For Steve-O.
Once upon a time not so
very long ago lived a man named Steve O. Steve was a nice guy. He loved
his wife, was good to his friends, and hung out with his family on
weekends. Steve also loved his computer. He had one at work and another at
home and a laptop in case he was on the go. Steve loved to chat and play
games and email and keep in touch with the world. For all his fine
characteristics, Steve had a problem. You see, Steve just couldn’t get the
hang of finding a suitable handle to use online. He tried combining
nicknames from high school and college to form new words. He tried
combining things he liked with popular expressions. He tried using slang in
conjunction with current events. But nothing worked. Thus, the many people
who met Steve through their online meetings thought Steve was about 13 years
old. This was a constant source of irritation. Steve enlisted the help of
his real world friends. They tried to help him, but ultimately, his online
name had to be his choice. Steve pondered and pondered and thinked and
thunk, but he never did come up with a suitable name. So someday when
you’re online and get a message from a DogCheez or a SnoopClown, don’t ask
the person’s age. Simply be polite, and try to understand how poor Steve’s
plight affects us all. |
