Will you buy from Dell again? : Depends on whether I will receive free service. But I bought it from US and live in Canada/Romania and I do not have the guarantee forms.

Additional Comments... : Dell people repaired the box 3 times until they finally replaced the complete box in December 2003. Since then it have worked without any problems.

Additional Comments... : I think you are right to some extent. If you remove the dust from the heatsink, you will improve the cooling. But the basic problem is that the cooling capacity is too low. You should not have to remove dust weekly. There should be excessive heating capac

When did the problems start? : About October 2003, after having purchased in July 2003. Raise a support call, but have only had suggestions of upgradeing BIOS (fair enough), and upgrading video driver (yer, right ...).
Did The Solution solve your problems? : Not as yet. Ive only just discovered the more recent discussions and this site. I havent tried the blowing air or heatsink/fan replacement yet. I have been using I8kfanGUI for some time though to help me get by.
What were your temps. before & after the fix? : Without a big clean yet, idle temps have grown to the high 50s. From observation and assistance from I8kfanGUI, it appears power off occurs at about 75 degrees. BUT DONT LET IT GET TO THAT.
Will you buy from Dell again? : Questionalbe. Depeands on their resposivness from here, while the laptop is still under warrenty.
Additional Comments... : I have mentioned my experience to other Dell owners with differnt models. They were un effected but a bit concerned. I mentioned it to someone on the train with two 5100s and he had quite a horrified look on his face! DELL BEWARE!!!!
