havent found the solution. Dell sent me,
mainboard and heatsink but I havent changed
yet. Unfortunately, Dell dealer sold the
machine with only parts warranty under the
assumption that it was parts+service
warrantly. Now I have to change the parts.
What were your temps. before & after the
fix? : It doesnt seem heating problem as
computer wouldnt start even in the morning
after being shut the whole night. Dell is
saying its a read switch problem.
Will you buy from Dell again? : Probably
not.

did try using compressed air to keep it
clean and also used small desk fan blowing
on it at all times to keep temps down.

fix? : I didnt download the software that
measures temps.

Additional Comments... : I called dell about
the overheat issue and auto shutdown. They
suggested running diags. All passed, NOTHING
failed. Although it tokk a couple of trys to
run these tests due to shutdowns. Eventually
the overheating DID create enough problems
that resulted

ago. Have had the laptop a year with no
problems until now Id never left it on as
desktop and didnt use it much more than a
couple hours a day. I recently began
compressing lots of video on an almost daily
basis, leaving it run for long hour

Just got a can of compressed air. Blew out
the cooling system through the back vent.
Worked like a charm. But I should by no
means have to do that on a regular basis.

incorporated it into their design before

CPU: I clocked it with that fanGUI at 73!!!!
I was shocked, since 71 is the supposed
shutdown temp for the Pentium4 478pin
processor. After the fix I idle at 39 after
the HD is nice and warm, and during full CPU

like these. I need a really dependable
machine due to my budget. If I do decide to
look at Dell in the future, the first place

scoop on how well their equip

efforts in the forums everybody. Dell should
offer you all some compensation. This is an
obvious flaw in Dells poor design to
accomodate the newer Pentiums.

solved the prolem. The fans are still noisy
and the computer has shut down since.
