Let's Celebrate a First For Many States!  Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Officers' Week JULY 23-29, 2000
The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) felt that adult and juvenile probation, parole and community supervision officers’ lingered in the shadows of anonymity far too long. APPA honors these unsung heroes through a presidential message & proclamations from 48 states declaring July 23-29, 2000 to be set aside to honor and recognize line officers who are on the front lines working with offenders who work and live in our communities. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were 4.1 million men and women on probation and parole as of December 31, 1999. This number does not reflect the number of juveniles on community supervision.

Tens of thousands of officers work to ensure public safety. They are an essential part of the criminal and juvenile justice system who recognize the right of the public to be safeguarded from criminal activity.

Officers work in partnership with community agencies and groups to provide services, support and protection for victims and others. They also provide services and support to offenders while holding them accountable.

The service these officers provide to our communities is invaluable!

APPA applauds their efforts and encourages each state to set aside time to honor and recognize these heroes during their week. Contact your local adult or juvenile probation or parole office for ways you can recognize these officers.

WE WANT YOUR CREATIVE IDEAS ON USING TECHNOLOGY TO BETTER SERVE IOWANS!!!

Earlier this year Governor Vilsack outlined his goal of making Iowa a digital state and achieving 100% E for state government.  As part of this initiative, we are asking for all State of Iowa employees to suggest ideas for using technology to better serve our customers or to help you do your job better.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the survey, which can be found online at
www.info.state.ia.us/infopoll/surveys/s2.htm.

Complete one survey for each idea you have.

You are encouraged to submit your ideas by April 17, 2001.  However, if you think of additional technology applications, the survey will still be available after April 17.

Thank you for your input!
