This rose has a sweet smell... The Governor has proclaimed May 6th-12th Corrections Officer's and Employee's Week!!

Happy To Be A State Worker...I know things are hard right now due to the budget cuts and people have concerns which sometimes result in bad attitudes.  All I want to say is there is good in everything as long as we choose to find it.  We finally have a governor who supports us (state worker) and is looking out for our best interest.  I would like to say thanks not only to our governor for his support but also thanks to my district director and his staff.  They are doing everything they can to see that all of us still have jobs.                                                                                      Sincerely, 8th Judicial District Employee

Budget Cuts... It is unfortunate that the legislature has reduced the budgets of CBC operations across the state while the Governor's Task Force and other experts are recommending the expansion of Iowa's CBC programs to reduce prison admissions.                                                                                                                     Anonymous

Thanks...Recently I had to have back surgery and unfortunately I also had to be off work for seven weeks and I did not have enough time on the books to cover this.  I had to put in for Catastrophic Illness, which allows others to donate vacation time that could be put towards my sick leave. I was looking at three weeks without pay but thanks to the generosity of several people enough time was donated to cover all the time I was off. I would like to thank all of my coworkers in the 8th District for their donations and I also would like to thank Barbara Everett and Lewis Washington of the 7th District and Robert Morck of the 1st District for their donations. This was a generous gesture and I greatly appreciate all of your help.                                                                                                                                                 Michael J. ICON should be called ICON'T because I can't ever figure it out.  You would think that with all the money the state has put into it that they would have fixed all of the bugs by now.  But the roll-outs still continue and things get more confusing every day.                                                                                                          Anonymous 5th District

ICON is an abomination - poorly designed, inefficient, needlessly complex, and geared for the convenience of management; vs. for those who actually do the work.  I have described the ICON database design to several computer programmer/systems administrator friends, and they chortle in derision. ICON appears to be, a shabby attempt to eliminate clerical jobs by having supervisory agents do extra clerical-type work. This, in turn, means less time agents have with the people we are supposed to be changing for the better. Hey, I've got an idea: why don't you put up a web page called "ICON Horror Stories".  I bet you'd get a lot of hits on that one.  Oh, well, got to go, as I have repetitive data to enter.                                                                                                                   Not Quite Disgruntled

Internet Usage:  I would just like to thank everyone in the 8th District who abused the use of the internet at work.  Why?  Because, now we can't even access our web site from work.
