| Starting in Reykjavík, one can
head immediately north through Hvalfjarðargöngin to Akranes (49 km),
Borgarnes (74 km), Blönduós (244 km) and eventually Akureyri (389 km,
see Norðurland).
Or, head east first and then into the country to Gullfoss (125 km) and
Geysir amongst other places. |

Right in downtown Reykjavík is a fairly large pond, Tjörnin.
There are many species of birds that can been seen there, Edgars,
Sterns, Mallard, Swans ...

Gullfoss
The Golden Waterfall is one of the almost mandatory stops in
Iceland. A popular loop is going to Geysir and Gullfoss,
this route is called the Golden circle,
