Chapter History |
The Intocables Chapter was founded on April 14th, 1995 at Bloomfield College, by one young man who felt the need to bring an organization that would help address the needs of the Latino students at Bloomfield College, this young mans name was Roberto Santana (Rob). After researching some of the fraternites on campus, Rob felt these organizations did not have what he was looking for in a fraternity. So he attended a workshop, sponsored by Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. at Kean College in the Spring of 1994, he met the brothers of the Emperadores Chapter, and told them of his interest in getting to know more about LSU, and possibly start a new chapter at Bloomfield College, that same week the Emperadores Chapter was holding a Rum & Salsa Reunion (Interest Meeting) to which Rob was invited to attend, he left the interest meeting very impressed with what he had heard and seen from the brothers, Rob asked the Brothers what did he have to do in order to establish a chapter at Bloomfield College, the brothers of the Emperadores Chapter bought the news of a possible new chapter to the Executive State Board, the State Board met with him and told him what the prerequisites were for membership and establishment of a chapter. The State Board thought that the Emperadores Chapter would be to far for the associate member to travel to, since Bloomfield College was in northern NJ, the State Board assigned the brothers of the Monaca Chapter/Montclair St. College to sponsor the possible new chapter, since Bloomfield College was in Northern NJ. While Rob was waiting to begin his initiation process he met several times with brothers of the Monarca Chapter and the State Board, to get LSU recognized as a chapter at Bloomfield College, after meeting with school administration and the office of Student Activities Lambda Sigma Upsilon was given full recognition as a college fraternity on campus. So on February 17th, 1995 a new legacy for Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. was born along with a student from Montclair St. College Ricardo Lora Jr. For 8 weeks these young men faced the challenges and trials of becoming Upsilons and succeeded, on April 14, 1995 the Intocables Line crossed into the Baby Blue & White World of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraterntiy, Inc. !! After the line had crossed the State Board met with the new brother from Bloomfield College, in regards to being a separate chapter and advised him that he should wait until there are more brothers on campus, because they did not want the chapter to die out or become dormant, Rob took their advice and continued to work with the Monarca Chapter as a "Metro Chapter" in the Fall of 1995 two new brothers crossed into the Upsilon World, from Bloomfield College these brothers were Nelson P. Nieves Jr. and Nagib Saab, they too worked with Rob and the Monarca Chapter, the chapter at Bloomfield College had several lines after that but they were unsuccessful (Ghostlines). But in the Spring of 1997 the chapter had its biggest line yet, 4 students from Bloomfield College and 2 from Montclair St. College, after they crossed, the brothers of Bloomfield College began to meet and talk about becoming a separate chapter of LSU, in the Fall of 1997 another student from Bloomfield College crossed into "Our World" the brothers of Bloomfield College met with the new National Board, (LSU had become a National Organization by this time). The National Board read our proposal, on separation, but decided to vote on it during another meeting, due to the historic impact this would have on the fraternity, never had a metro chapter seperated to become its own entity. In the Spring of 1998, another young man from Bloomfield College showed interest in becoming an Upsilon, the brothers from Bloomfield College felt that this was the time to start showing their aninimity from Monarca Chapter and their eagerness to be a separate chapter, the young man was not assigned with an "M" as a part of his line number he was assigned a "B", because they were not yet a separate chapter. This bought about some controversy & arguments with the National Board, and other brothers, but the message was getting across. Finally in the Spring of 1998 after the line had crossed, the brothers from Bloomfield College were granted full recognition & charter as a separate chapter thus becoming the 11th chapter of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc.... THE INTOCABLES CHAPTER !!!!! Since that time the brothers of the Intocables Chapter have worked hard both within our chapter and on the national level, 4 brothers of the Intocables Chapter held National Executive Board positions at the same time, that has never been done before even till today.... The Intocables Chapter has made its mark both on its respective college campus, and within the National level of the fraternity, fostering leaders and role models for the new millenium... We strive for what the others forgot!! KNOWLEDGE, CULTURE, SERVICE |
