LSU History

Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. was founded on April 5th, 1979 at Rutgers University. In 22 years LSU has made significant strides to better uplift young men of all cultures and races, as well as the campus community, and the community-at-large. Currently Lambda Sigma Upsilon is comprised of 20 undergraduate chapters across the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida & New York, with new chapters being added every semester.
Our founders were men who believed that the minority population at colleges at universities were not getting the attention they so desperately needed to advance in their academic and social goals.
With this notion, they created Lambda Sigma Upsilon to act as a support group for Latinos and minorities, as well as to provide a family away from home. As proof of this our founding  fathers developed 4 goals that would embody the purpose for Lambda Sigma Upsilon. These goals are:

1.
Academic Excellence - Insure that our brothers earn their degree is the main focus of LSU. We believe that our brothers will go beyond the extra mile to insure that their own, as well as that of other brothers academic goals are achieved.

2.
Cultural Awareness & Diversity - LSU maintains a strong emphasis on cultural awareness. We do not go by a typical " Greek" system (Alpha, Beta, etc.) rather we let each new chapter create its own identity, insuring their legacy is passed down. The diversity of the fraternity is evident amongst our brotherhood. Over 40 countries are represented in Lambda Sigma Upsilon, thus making LSU one of the most culturally diverse fraternities in the countries.

3.
Brotherhood - LSU prides itself on its unique and diverse brotherhood. Brotherhood provides not only a group of individuals a sense of family away from home: it also helps individuals gain a new perspective on college life. Brotherhood also provides various networking opportunities with individuals who share common interests.

4.
Being role models to the community -  Lambda Sigma Upsilon is well known for its service to the campus community and the community-at-large. Various projects include a charity basketball game between the New York Giants and the Jersey City Police Dept. our fraternities "Meal on Wheels" program and fund raising drives for Hurricanes Mitch and George in 1998. This is just a few of the community service & campus services LSU does, on both a national and chapter level.

Our Mission

We, the brothers of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. strongly believe that many
individual and collective successes can be acheived through the efforts of a culturally diverse brotherhood of college, university, & professional men, who through close association with each other, maintain honesty, respect, commitment and trust.

The maintenance of these qualities is nurtured in large part through the diversity of culture and
through self-awareness and self-respect.
Among the results of actions taken in these states of being are the promotion of friendship and brotherhood, the development of individual character, the advancement of justice and opportunity, and the acquisition of soundness in education.
