The core program of the IDES. For the past ten years, IDES mainly provide Basic Trade Union Education which dealt on CBA Tactics, Grievance Handling, Basic Course on Paralegal, and on Basic Trade Union Course for mass membership of client unions. IDES also provided Skills Training Courses which were focused on Trainors/Instructors Training and on Paralegal Training. However, IDES will be implementing a Leadership Enhancement and Organization Development Package in the next three years. This will deal primarily on the development of "24 karat" leaders, which will put emphasis on value formation and skills training (leaders with the commitment to improve oneself in order to serve others well in the transformation process). Technical Support and Consultancy - This is usually offered to trade unions who need technical support on paralegal matters, cooperative or livelihood activities, feasibility studies, support on fund sourcing/resour ce mobilization, monitoring and evaluation of education programs, CBA analysis, trends or updates on labor issues and many others. Research and Publication - Research is done basically to \tab support education and training work as well as advocacy work. Up-to -date analysis and trending on national and international development that affect the lives of workers are often necessary to substantiate and make workers aware of their situation and beyond their trade unions. Research can also help scrutinize present structures or legislations, whether they are still useful or have gone obsolete to their interests. Publication of "TAGAMASID" on a quarterly basis (a simplified newsletter type of publication) will be an important tool for leaders to participate in the information build-up among workers, within their local unions and to those outside of their own unions. Advocacy and Networking - In line with its objective to change or challenge existing organizational structures and formations in the trade union movement, as well as those of the Labor Code and labor legislation\rquote s, advocacy work has to be activated among the leaders of the trade union movement. Henceforth networking is also necessary to initiate the needed formations in the labor front, like organizing alo ng industry lines/occupational lines, the informal sector and in workers communities. Through networking and advocacy work, issues can be cleared and unification in the labor movement can be initiated . |
