  • Solutions that Empower:
WSU students face a variety of issues that we can address by giving solutions that empower students.

    Cultural Awareness Committee

The Cultural Awareness Committee, which will be appointed by the ASWSU President, will look at educating our students on how to embrace the importance that diversity offers in our lives. Individuals on the committee will come from all walks of life and possess the backgrounds and perspectives that are necessary to bring greater awareness and stronger campus unity.
The committee (6-8 members) will serve three all encompassing purposes:

    1) Make diversity a greater part of the college experience. Educate and prepare students outside the classroom about the rich benefits that diversity offers. This will be done through the support of existing programming and the additional programming and workshops.

    2) Greater retention efforts. Activate new programs and methods aimed at ensuring that our current students of diverse backgrounds feel equally welcome, represented, and part of our campus.

    3) Recruitment of students. This committee will explore the options that exist and implement news ways to recruit more students of varied backgrounds and perspectives.

This proposal in no way to takes away from the current organizations or programs that we currently have here at WSU. We are excited of the positives that could come from a group such as this. Funding for this will come from Federal Grants and S&A Fees.
