With this bike I went to Round Valley. 2002 model year 23" Trek 520, pretty much stock. Gear inches: high of 108.7 to a low of 18.7. The stock 105 model chainring needed to be changed out -- it wasn't suitable for a touring bike as the low gearing was 25 inches and the high was 127... far from ideal, (or even well thought out), for what Trek sells as a touring bike. Unfortunately, getting a better gear range meant the crank arms needed to be replaced as well, so the replacement is Shimano LX 170 mm. Chainring sizes: 44/32/22. Chain is the stock shimano ID, with an SRAM powerlink. Derailers are Shimano LX, both front and rear. Seat is a Serfas Reactive Gel Men's See-Thru. Rear Rack is Jandd Expedition. Fenders are the Esge- SKS plastic/ aluminum type. Wheels are the stock 36 hole Bontrager Fairlane rims, (rear is offset), Shimano LX hubs, (both front and rear are quick release type), with the stock SRAM 11 - 32, 9 speed cassette. Tires are the stock IRC Durotour 700 x 35C, with a Mr. Tuffy thorn strip in the rear. Shifters are Dura Ace bar ends. Brakes are Avid Single Digit 5, brake handles are stock whatevers. Handlebar stock Bontrager 44cm. Vetta RT77 cyclocomputer. Usually there's no handlebar bag, but the one I use for tours is a Cannondale. The rear rack trunk is a Trek model, panniers are Ortlieb Bike Packer Light for both front and rear. Accessories: Nashbar combination compass/ bell, headlight is a Cygolite Nite Rover water bottle model, Taillight is a Cateye red blinkie, generic water bottle cages, generic (toe clip) pedals, Topeak underseat wedge pack holds spare tube and tools, Greenfield rear triangle mounted kickstand, Zefal HPX4 pump.
