Annual Poetry Contest

The Inglis House Poetry Contest is an annual contest that begins each year on April 1 and runs until June 1. The purpose of the contest is to raise awareness of writing about disability and to help promote the work of writers with disabilities. It is also to contribute to the building of a core of disability literature through the genre of poetry. The guidelines for the Sixth Annual Contest are listed below.   • Category 1
    • Open to all writers
    • Poems must relate in some way to disability
    • No more than 75 lines per poem
    • 2 Poem limit
  • Category 2
    • Open only to poets with disabilities
    • Indicate disability in cover letter
    • Poems can be on any subject
    • No more than 75 lines per poem
    • 3 Poem limit

Writers with disabilities may enter both categories. Although previously unpublished poems are preferred, published poems are acceptable if the place of publication is indicated in the submission.

The 2005 Contest Winners and other poems on disability from the 2005 contest are available in the chapbook, Something Close to Beautiful. The 2006 contest winners appeared in the On the Outskirts published in September 2006. The winners from 2007 appear in Slow Dancing to Invisible Music. All titles are available from the Inglis House Poetry Workshop.
