Hello, Darlings! Here are a few places to go in and around New Orleans if you want to go out in drag.
Peppers
2105 Hancock, Gretna, on the West Bank 227-9732 www.oocities.org/thegreatpeppers
Show on Saturday night, starting around 10:30 or 11. Mixed crowd, some straight, about 3/4 Gay, Lesbian, and Transgendered. All welcome. Thursday night is "boys on the bar" night. Friday night is dance night. Saturday is Show Night, and Sunday is Cheap Date night, with lots of drink specials. Map below:
Mint
Corner of 940 Elysian Fields and Rampart 944-4888
Lesbian owned, and lots of Womyn go there but all are welcome. Show on Friday night.
Le Roundup
819 St Louis, in the French Quarter 561-8340
Lots of TG go there, and lots of tourists to see them, too! Maybe 2/3 or more of the girls there are tricking, and some of those are drug users, so keep a watchful eye out. Fun place, and you will definitely meet some interesting people there.
Double Play
St Louis Street, in the French Quarter. Actually, 439 Dauphine, corner of St Louis. 523-4517
Same warnings apply; also to the next place:
Corner Pocket
940 St Louis, in the French Quarter 568-9829 www.cornerpocket.net
9th Circle
700 North Rampart Street, edge of the French Quarter 524-7654
Occasional shows but not as many as when it was still named Footloose and under the previous management.
Golden Lantern
1239 Royal Street in the Quarter. 529-2860
Sometimes kinda dead, but there is a show on Saturday Night about 10.
Voodoo
718 N Rampart Street, edge of the French Quarter 527-0703
Same ownership as 9th Circle.
Oz
800 Bourbon Street, French Quarter www.ozneworleans.com
Dance club. Show night 11:30 every Wednesday. Oz Gong Show on Mondays.
735
735 Bourbon Street 581-6740 www.735bourbon.com
Bourbon Pub
801 Bourbon Street, French Quarter 529-2107 www.bourbonpub.com
Shim-Sham Club
615 Toulouse Street, French Quarter 299-0666 www.shimshamclub.com. "Bad Drag Night" Saturday, 9 PM with cash prizes. Porn on Monday. Lots of different events throughout the week, and the Shim Shamettes appear monthly so check and see what is going on. Not a gay bar but T-friendly.
Lucky Cheng's
St Louis Street, French Quarter. A restaurant with a twist. The waitresses are all TS or nearly passable CD, and there are impromptu lip-synch acts by the girls. Other planned events on Friday or Saturday nights. Service and T-friendliness greatly improved since a change of management. The food was okay, but didn't really impress me as they were out of salmon, the entree I wanted, and the fried ice cream was a bit rough. Still worth a visit for T-girls or admirers. Good place for a date. Come early, or make reservations.
Clover Grill
Bourbon Street. Great place for the best burgers in New Orleans. Sit at the counter and watch the er--- flambouyant cooks prepare your order as they dance and prance to tunes from Grease and Village People. Try a double-meat cheeseburger... 2/3 lb of fresh beef. Mixed crowd, tourists and local gay folks. If you want to be admired in drag in a safe venue, this is the place to go.
Here is a map you can copy, print, memorize and burn, whatever:
Most of the French Quarter clubs are 24 hours. Some of the Bourbon Street clubs have a cover charge, and Bourbon Pub can sometimes have a line to get in. Check the club websites for happenings.
Angles
2301 N. Causeway Blvd, Metairie
Drag show Friday night at 11.
Southern Decadence is coming up soon!
More info later... I was just in a hurry to get this up.
